Earl Frederick Thompson Was Murdered

January 23, 2016 in Allied Families, Brick Walls, Meredith, Uncategorized

Earl Thompson was my 1st cousin 3 times removed.  He was the son of Brittiania Ruby and Andrew Thompson.  Brittiania was my 3rd great-aunt, the sister of my 2nd great-grandmother, Rosa Emeline Ruby Meredith.

The Archives of Michigan put the death certificates of Michigan residents who died between 1921 and 1939 online a couple of years ago and I found Earl’s.  He died 4 Oct 1930 in St Clair County, Michigan.  I knew that from before the images went online because Family Search had transcribed those records.  When I was finally able to see his death certificate, I was shocked and saddened to learn that he’d been murdered.  I searched and searched but had never been able to find any newspaper article regarding the murder.  That changed today because of Find My Past, a website which is having free access to their records this weekend.  Someone in one of my Facebook genealogy groups had posted that they weren’t impressed because they hadn’t been able to find any information about someone they’re researching.  Another poster replied that they liked the site because of their extensive collection of newspapers online for her hometown.  Just for the heck of it, I went to Find My Past, searched their newspaper archives and found this:

Earl Thompson Murder

Well!  To say I’m a happy girl is THE understatement so far of 2016.  I wish I could find more about what happened, but at least I’ve found this.  Rest in peace, Earl.
